The Sønderborg-area has many lovely beaches you can visit on the warm and sunny days.
A day at the beach
In addition to a mild and friendly climate without strong undercurrent, you will find many good beaches with high water quality in the Sønderborg area. Throughout the summer time, water samples is collected and assesses continuously at 24 beaches in Sønderborg Municipality and you will find the Blue Flag at no less than nine beaches.
The Blue Flag is more than a sign for clean waters. During summer, they have a programme full of funny and interesting nature experiences for the entire family. The programme, in Danish, will be accessible on the website Naturvejlederne.dk from mid-June.

Drejby Strand - Kerneland
On the southern part of the island of Als, next to the beautiful Baltic Sea, you will find one of the best beaches.
Vemmingbund Strand
The beach is located next to Sønderborg Bay and the low water level makes it one of the most child-friendly beaches in the Sønderborg area.
Alnor Strandpark
Beach on Flensburg Fjord, directly at the Gendarme Path and near the royal summer residence, Graasten Palace.
Lågmaj Strand - Egernsund
This cosy sandy beach is located next to the protected waters of Flensburg Fjord.

The beach is located close to the city centre in the direction of Sønderborg Castle.
Den Sorte Badestrand - Sønderborg
The beach has a bathing jetty and a ramp at the water’s edge provides easy access in a wheel chair.
Købingsmark Beach

Mommark Strand
Lovely sandy beach with jetty and Blue Flag located at Mommark Marina on Sydals.
Sønderstrand
Lovely sandy beach in the north-western part of the Kegnæs peninsula, which is connected to the island of Als via the dam, Drejet.
Østerby Strand
Lovely beach next to Flensburg Outer Fjord on the Kegnæs peninsula, which is connected to the island of Als via Drejet.
Toøren - the beach at Sundgade
Beach close to the city with lovely view over the Als Sund to Sønderborg Castle.
Tips and Safety
There is a proverb: Only a fool fears not the sea. Fear may not be necessary, but a healthy respect is never out of place, and, of course, there is encouragement to keep an eye on the children at the beach, as well as to leave inflatable toys at home when the wind is offshore.
The much-loved SUP boards can also lead bathers astray, and it might be a good idea to take a moment to study the safety brochure with good advice before venturing into 'the wild waves.'
We don't have dangerous animals in our waters, but an encounter with a jellyfish can be extremely unpleasant, and here you will also find some good advice.
